John-Paul arrived in Chester in September 2006, and quickly befriended Craig Dean, saving him many times from being attacked by Sonny Valentine. During John-Paul’s time in the Chester, he has been having a pretty tough time, after falling in love with his best friend Craig Dean. In an attempt to cover up his feelings he ended up dating Hannah Ashworth but eventually John-Paul admits to how he really feels, and after kissing Craig loses all of his friends.
Eventually Sarah and Hannah forgive John Paul and John Paul finds a boyfriend named Spike. Two months after Craig and John Paul's kiss, with the help of Sarah and Hannah the pair start talking again. Not long after the two become friends again, does Craig begin to suffer from jealousy after witnessing John Paul kissing Spike, after he thought they had broken up for good. John Paul mistakes Craig's jealousy of Spike as Craig not coming to terms with him being gay.
During one of Craig's exams he runs of to John Paul's house where he admits his true feelings for John Paul. Craig then kisses John Paul, before leading him to the bedroom. The next day Craig trys to forget what happened but before long the pair are in bed together once more. They then start an affair together.
John Paul breaks up with Spike as he can't face having to lie to him, and Craig promises to do the same with Sarah, but he never does. Eventually after hearing Craig asked Sarah to marry him he 'outs him' at their engagement party.
When the truth is finally out, Craig picks John Paul over Sarah and the pair set of to leave to Dublin together. While at the airport, John Paul asks Craig to kiss him. When Craig cannot, John Paul realises Craig has still not come to terms with their relationship and leaves to return home.
Since then John Paul has found new love with Kieron.
